OHIO UNIVERSITY’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a one-year non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Instruction specializing in Anthropology beginning in Fall 2025-2026. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses in Cultural Anthropology and/or Biological Anthropology on both the Athens campus and e-Campus. Non-tenure track faculty teach an eight-course teaching load per year.
This Assistant Professor of Instruction position is a full-time, nine-month benefitted position for the academic term of one year (from August 16, 2025, to May 15, 2026). Depending on departmental requirements, funding availability, and the candidate’s successful performance, there is a possibility of extending the position for additional years.
Housed in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the Anthropology Program consists of 7 full-time faculty and over 100 majors and minors. The program maintains a core focus on public engagement and outreach across the subfields. This focus provides opportunities for undergraduate students through community-based research and learning such as internships, field schools, independent research projects, and study abroad opportunities. Ohio University is a Research Intensive institution that serves more than 20,000 students on a residential campus in Athens, Ohio, a college town seventy-five miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio, as well as expanding e-Campus online programs.
Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must be ABD in Anthropology, or a related field, at the time of application and must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field by December 31, 2025.
Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Anthropology, or a related field, by the start date of the position, and
experience as an Instructor of Record.
