Assistant professor in Medical and/or Environmental Anthropology

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a salary range of $70,000-80,000, to begin in August 2022.

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Wyoming is known throughout the state of Wyoming and the region for its leadership in research and public education about our unique cultural heritage. The department is achieving national and international recognition for its research programs.

In addition to the commitment to Wyoming-based research, Anthropology faculty offer UW international expertise in areas such as Europe, Asia, Africa, Native America, and more, constituting a center of multicultural global research at UW.

We seek a cultural anthropologist with specialization in medical anthropology and/or environmental anthropology. We have a strong preference for a scholar specializing in human-environment interaction; adaptation to changing environments; cultural determinations of sickness, wellbeing, and treatment; illness and discrimination; and/or health belief systems. The successful candidate will be capable of mentoring graduate and undergraduate student research in their global area of expertise AND show evidence of teaching effectiveness and grantsmanship, a record of publication, and a field or lab-based research program that could incorporate student participation. Expected teaching includes a course in the candidate’s area of specialization as well as introductory and upper division courses in cultural anthropology.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Assistant professors shall normally hold the terminal qualification in their discipline (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., MFA, etc.), and shall have demonstrated ability, through appropriate experience, to perform the functions of the position they are to hold.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

– Doctorate degree in Anthropology related field by date of appointment
– Specialization in medical anthropology and/or environmental anthropology
– Demonstrated record of grantsmanship
– Demonstrated record of publication
– A field- and/or lab-based research program that could incorporate student participation
– Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research
– Ability to teach introductory and upper division courses in cultural anthropology, including environmental and/or medical anthropology

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

– Evidence of teaching effectiveness
– Evidence of cross-disciplinary collaboration
– Geographic area of specialization is open but preference given to applicants with ability and willingness to include work in Western North America
