Postdoctoral Instructor of Anatomy
The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Instructor of Anatomy position for CHS-Northwest is to perform laboratory instruction in cadaver-based human anatomy, assist the anatomy course director in lecturing and student assessment, and to maintain/develop a research program in collaboration with anatomy faculty. The primary student population served is Doctor of Physical Therapy students, although this position might contribute to anatomy courses for other student populations as required. The Postdoctoral Instructor of Anatomy reports directly to the Chair of DPT-OR, but would collaborate with and be mentored by the full-time anatomy faculty in CHS-NW. Potential for teaching and research collaboration would exist beyond CHS-NW, for example in Western University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (in California and Oregon). The position is a 12-month, renewable contract. The Postdoctoral Instructor of Anatomy would be expected to devote some time to applying for external research support in collaboration with the faculty mentor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Effective communication of knowledge and procedure in anatomy to students at a graduate level.
2. The ability to work independently while maintaining cooperative working relationships within a collaborative environment.
3. Knowledge of how to carry out collaborative research in an academic environment.
4. Experience with the instruction of human anatomy, preferrably in the context of full cadaver dissection.
5. Respect for the gift of human body donation and a professional attitude to laboratory anatomy.
6. Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and visitors effectively, professionally, and tactfully.
7. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, the internet, and email. Preference for candidates with experience in software and techniques used in paleontology, comparative anatomy, biological anthropology, evolutionary biology, etc.
8. Must be able to maintain confidentiality including knowledge of the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Qualifications Standard
1. Experience in teaching cadaver-based human anatomy, at least as a laboratory instructor. Consideration will be given to any anatomy teaching experience, including comparative anatomy with dissection and human anatomy without dissection.
2. Doctorate Degree completed is highly preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates who are in a doctoral program and have completed all but the dissertation, provided there is a clear and short timeline toward completion.
3. Preferences will be given to those with previous research experience in comparative anatomy, functional anatomy, paleontology, biomechanics, dental anatomy, or a related field.
JOB DUTIES:
TEACHING: Laboratory instruction of human anatomy. This includes assisting students in dissecting the entire human body; assisting faculty in preparing written and practical examinations; assisting faculty in grading exams, presentations, and assignments; and helping to coordinate the online learning system for the anatomy course. This includes time devoted to preparing for in-contact teaching.
RESEARCH: Maintaining a research program commensurate with previous PhD research. Developing collaborative research projects with anatomy (and potentially other) faculty at the institution. Assisting anatomy faculty in data collection in paleontology, comparative anatomy, biomechanics, and primate food processing. Writing grant proposals for internal and external research funding, in collaboration with anatomy faculty.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Progress toward presenting and publishing results of prior research. Participation in professional societies including participation in conferences where relevant. Participation in teaching/learning workshops and instructional training based on interest and availability.
