Anatomy Faculty

The Department of Anatomy in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University is seeking a qualified individual for a 12-month, open-rank, tenure-track faculty position. This individual will participate in teaching graduate-level students in various medical and allied-health fields, maintain scholarly activity and/or seek extramurally funded independent research, and serve in academic governance responsibilities. Review of applications will begin on January 2, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.

What you’ll do:
• Teach anatomy-related content to medical (DO), podiatry, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or Master’s of anatomy students.
• Develop and/or direct anatomy-related courses within the prescribed program curricula.
• Prepare and deliver lectures to students in the formal classroom setting, deliver laboratory instruction (including teaching in gross anatomy dissection labs), and be available to meet and assist students.
• Participate in informal educational programs to include laboratories, PBL sessions, case scenarios, etc., as assigned by the Chair.
• Develop and sustain an extramurally funded independent research program. Be active in scholarly activity and publish findings in professional journals as appropriate.
• Seek and evaluate new educational procedures to improve the knowledge of students. What we’re looking for:
• The successful candidate must have a PhD in Anatomy or related field (by anticipated start date July 1, 2024).
• Candidates must also have at least one year of experience teaching in the anatomical sciences, including cadaver-based gross anatomy.
• Ideal candidates will also be able to teach histology, embryology, and/or neuroanatomy, although all applicants with gross anatomy experience are encouraged to apply.
• Preferred candidate will have demonstrated successful independent scholarly activities, with a history or potential to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program. Scholarly activity in the form of educational research would also be considered beneficial.
