Assistant Professor (Sub-Discipline: Biological Anthropology)

Summary of Responsibilities: The Department of Anthropology is searching for a biological anthropologist with expertise in human variation and adaptation. The candidate should complement current applied research of the Department, and develop new research opportunities that take advantage of current facilities, including but not limited to our outdoor Skeleton Acres Research Facility and an individually assigned Biological Anthropology Laboratory, and/or to engage actively with local communities. Preferred skills include applicable quantitative and qualitative methods such as, but not limited to: contemporary human demography, taphonomy, paleopathology, and skeletal biology. The candidate is required to teach a full load of three regular courses (3 credit hours each) per semester as scheduled and assigned by the department chair. In addition the candidate is also expected to teach independent reading, research, lab, and field studies courses.

The candidate is expected to:
-teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biological anthropology as offered in the course catalog.

-develop topical and area courses in their field of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses which have an applied dimension.

-mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students in our program.

-engage actively in the recruitment and retention of students.

-pursue external funding in support of research, including sponsoring student research opportunities.


Minimum Education:
Ph.D. in Anthropology in hand at time of employment.


Minimum Experience
:
-The candidate must have demonstrated proficiency in teaching and research, documented through teaching evaluations, published articles, and grants received.
-The candidate must demonstrate ongoing engagement in scholarly publications and research grant activity.
