Lab Supervisor, Anthropology & Archaeology, Faculty of Arts

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Laboratory Supervisor. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position will report to the Principal Investigator, and will plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the activities and operations of a genetics laboratory, including quality control.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the scientific and technical work performed in the laboratory
Assign, coordinate and review the technical work of the laboratory or project teams
Manage the laboratory and research projects
Ensure that as technologies change, the laboratory adapts to and learns the new technologies
May support other research projects by providing knowledge, skills, and on-the-job training to others
Work closely with the Principal Investigator in areas of protocol development, standard operating protocol development, development of research projects and proposals
Contribute to and assist in submitting research grants proposals.
Some in-scope supervision

Qualifications / Requirements:

Masters Degree in a relevant area required, PhD preferred
Extensive knowledge of wet lab techniques in genetics, genomics
Minimum 2 years of practical experience
Experience with techniques relevant to population genomics, molecular ecology, medical genetics: prep of next-gen libraries, targeted capture, PCR, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, from a wide variety of biological samples, including feces, hair, saliva, blood, tissue
Experience in bioinformatics an asset
Previous lab supervising experience an asset
Open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
Organized, responsive, flexible and willing to adapt to the needs of the project
Able to work closely and interactively with PI to carry-out priorities for the lab each week
Exceptional ability to get along with people; work in a collaborative group, maintain a positive and proactive outlook
