Anthropology Professor

Seen as a leader statewide and nationally, Pierce College is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a full -time, tenure-track faculty position in Anthropology in the Department of Anthropological/
Geographical Sciences beginning Fall semester, 2016.

The Department:
The Department is committed to maintaining the highest academic standards while continuing to develop innovative teaching strategies. The archaeology program at Pierce College is focused on preparing student in occupational skills and transfer to four-year institutions.

Desirable Qualifications:
Archaeological fieldwork experience, either prehistoric or historic;

Experience and demonstrated proficiency in teaching lower division archaeology and anthropology courses;

Ability to offer an integrated education in the theoretical as well as applied aspects of archaeology and anthropology in general;

Knowledge of California archaeology and the state regulations protecting cultural resources, as well as a working knowledge of the state agencies implementing these regulations, is strongly preferred;

Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success at the community college level;

Effective oral and written communication skills;

Demonstrated ability to effectively teach the courses or perform the duties described above;

Ability to communicate well with students of diverse academic, ethnic,socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds, including students with disabilities and demonstrating sensitivity and understanding;

Ability to work cooperatively with others;

Demonstrated expertise in teaching at least one of the other three anthropological sub-fields (physical, cultural, and/or linguistics);

Commitment to participate in extracurricular responsibilities as designated by the department and college;
