Human Anatomy Laboratory Instructor

The Department of Biology at James Madison University invites applications for a renewable-term faculty position beginning July 2016. Hiring will be at the instructor level for a 12-month appointment with opportunity for promotion. The Department of Biology is a vibrant, growing department with 50 full-time faculty, nearly 1,000 majors, and 18 M.S. students. The departmental focus involves active engagement of students with faculty in mentored research experiences. The anatomy program serves undergraduate biology, kinesiology, pre-nursing and pre-professional health students, as well as graduate programs in Physician Assistant and Occupational Therapy. Facilities include a gross anatomy dissection laboratory and 2 new state-of-the-art undergraduate anatomy laboratories. The successful candidate will serve as coordinator and instructor for undergraduate and possibly graduate laboratories in Human Anatomy. Responsibilities also include the purchase, preparation and setup of laboratory materials and equipment, including human cadavers and the maintenance of lab facilities. The successful candidate will supervise undergraduate student assistants and work closely with other biology faculty and graduate students in curricular and pedagogical initiatives and their implementation. A master’s of science degree required and a Ph.D. is preferred. A demonstrated commitment to and excellence in teaching is required, and scholarly and/or outreach involvement is encouraged.
