Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream – Biological Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto Mississauga seeks an enthusiastic and innovative teacher for a full-time appointment in Biological Anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, to commence on July 1, 2018.

We seek candidates who have a record of excellent teaching and pedagogical research, pursue novel and innovative methods of thinking and teaching, and are interested in establishing a long-term teaching career with the Department.

Candidates must have a PhD in Anthropology or a related area with a focus on Biological Anthropology by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate must also have a record of excellence in teaching, and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical enquiry, curriculum development, and teaching innovation. Evidence of excellence and commitment will be demonstrated by strong letters of reference, teaching accomplishments documented in a teaching dossier, and publications or conference presentations on pedagogical research in the discipline. A creative, coherent and complete teaching dossier will highlight the candidate’s teaching accomplishments and any professional experience that may enhance teaching, and typically would include a teaching statement, course outlines, course evaluations, and select course materials that directly support and illustrate the teaching statement. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated interest in developing a long-term career in teaching and related scholarly activity in biological anthropology.

Teaching duties in the undergraduate program include core and service courses at the first and/or second year level, as well as upper-level courses in the candidate’s fields of expertise. Areas of expertise of interest include but are not limited to general biological anthropology, evolution of human biological sexuality, human evolution, comparative (primate) osteology, medical anthropology, and science education. Introducing anthropological topics to undergraduates outside the discipline is a major aspect of this position, as well as engaging with undergraduate specialists, majors, and minors in Anthropology broadly and students interested in topics in biological anthropology in particular.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
