Visiting Assistant Professor

Job Description
The anthropology department at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a visiting instructor for academic year 2019-2020. The course load is a 4-3 that includes undergraduate and graduate courses. Area of specialty should include biological anthropology. Area of research is open, but should indicate an ability to teach courses in introductory biological anthropology, osteology, forensic anthropology, and human variation. Primary responsibilities will include teaching assigned courses; however, the successful applicant will also have the opportunity to work on forensic anthropological casework in both an academic and Medical Examiner setting.

Required Qualifications
A PhD in anthropology or related field is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated success in previous teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses. The ability to develop course content that references the larger array of culturally diverse persons who have contributed significantly to the subject matter addressed by a given course. An ability to mentor students from historically under-represented groups within biological anthropology.

Department Information
The anthropology department has 13 faculty members who represent the four fields of anthropology. The Department is internationally recognized for its faculty and programs. The Master of Arts program offers opportunities at an in-house research museum, a biological anthropology laboratory, an ethnography laboratory, a prehistoric archaeology laboratory, and an historical archaeology laboratory. The doctoral program offers tracks in prehistoric archaeology, historical archaeology, cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.
