University of Wisconsin-Madison postdoctoral position in the Molecular Archaeology Group

A postdoctoral position is available in the Molecular Archaeology Group (MAG) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison through the Biotechnology Center

http://www.biotech.wisc.edu/research/mag

The MAG is an exciting inter-disciplinary initiative, that includes microbiologists, archaeologists, geographers, biogeochemists, soil scientists, and evolutionary biologists coordinated by Drs. William Aylward and Mike Sussman. The MAG’s overall research is focused on the analysis of ancient biomolecules from archaeological specimens.

We seek a candidate with experience extracting and characterizing DNA from archaeological materials. The successful candidate will manage our newly constructed ancient DNA laboratory. Depending on their experience and interests, they will also have the opportunity to work with one or more of the following affiliated faculty addressing a range of questions in evolutionary biology, anthropology, agricultural science, biogeography, and human and veterinary medicine:

Erika Marín-Spiotta, PhD, Assistant Professor of Geography

Caitlin Pepperell, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) & Medical Microbiology and Immunology

Garret Suen, PhD, Assistant Professor of Bacteriology

In addition, opportunities exist for collaborations with The Lab for Archeological Chemistry, the UWBC Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics Facility, and the UWBC DNA Sequencing Facility on campus.

Funding is initially available for 1 year with potential for extension. The candidate will also be expected to take advantage of numerous post-doctoral training programs available on campus.

Position available immediately. Salary commensurate with experience. Send CV and at least 2 letters of recommendation to Professor William Aylward (mag@biotech.wisc.edu) no later than September 29 for full consideration.
