Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State (FACTS) is seeking applications for a full-time, one-year Research Associate for Operation Identification (OpID). OpID aims to facilitate the identification and repatriation of unidentified human remains found along or within close proximity of the South Texas border through forensic anthropological analysis and collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations. OpID is housed at Texas State University, a public, student-centered, Emerging Research University dedicated to excellence in serving educational needs of a the diverse population of Texas and the world beyond.

The postdoc will supervise the cleaning and processing of human remains and personal effects with support from a part-time project assistant and volunteers, write forensic anthropological case reports, enter cases into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), submit DNA samples to the University of North Texas for CODIS inclusion, and collaborate with local and international non-governmental human rights organizations. The post-doc will also work together with six FACTS faculty members. The FACTS mission is to advance forensic science and anthropology through world-class education, research, and outreach.

Required qualifications:
1) A PhD in Anthropology or related field;
2) Managerial experience in an anthropology lab; and
3) Forensic anthropological case work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Experience with NamUs;
2) CODIS DNA submissions;
3) Personnel management and/or coordinating student workers/volunteers;
4) Working with databases;
5) Forensic anthropology casework along the US/Mexico border; and
6) Fluency in Spanish.
