Visiting Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology, Position #T98510

The Department of Anthropology at New Mexico State University seeks to hire a visiting assistant professor in biological anthropology, Position # T98510, for three semesters, beginning Spring 2018.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and MA level. The individual will teach four courses per semester in rotation: 1)Lower division general Education – Anth 120 Human Ancestors (general education social science requirement) or Anth 130G Human’s Place in Nature: an introduction to biological anthropology, a lower division general education lab science requirement, 2)Teach and supervise graduate laboratory teaching assistants for the corresponding suite of lower division laboratory sections for Anth 130G Lab, 3)Anth 355 Physical Anthropology, a core course for majors or an upper division undergraduate course aligned with an areas of interest listed below, such as Human Evolution, Human Variation and Health, Primate Behavior and Ecology, etc., and 4) a graduate (MA level) course focused on the candidate’s research specialization. Responsibilities also include but are not limited to advising graduate and undergraduate student research projects, course preparation, and assistance in organizing human and non-human primate skeletal collections and laboratory.

Required Qualifications Ph.D. preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

(optional) Preferred individual will have broad-based expertise in human evolution, primatology, human biological/genetic variation and health, evolutionary medicine, or molecular anthropology. Strengths in evolutionary theory and research methods are essential, ability to interface with applied research in biocultural anthropology, and teaching experience in biological anthropology laboratory settings strongly preferred. Ability to teach a human osteology course regardless of research specialization a plus.
