TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP

Western University of Health Sciences is a center for human and veterinary health education. The College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) is based at campuses in Pomona, CA (COMP) and Lebanon, Oregon (COMP-Northwest). The Department of Medical Anatomical Sciences is responsible for the teaching of dissection-based medical gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy, and embryology to first- and second-year osteopathic medical students. The Pomona campus, located 30 miles east of Los Angeles, California, invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, dependent upon qualifications, to begin July 1, 2019. Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. in Anatomy or equivalent terminal degree with a background in teaching dissection-based human anatomical sciences at the graduate level. We are strongly interested in candidates who have the ability to teach histology, neuroanatomy, or embryology in tandem with gross medical anatomy.

We are interested in candidates who have an active research program with either extramural funding or the ability to obtain such. Candidates who could demonstrate collaborative potential in our existing research programs in morphometric-based anatomy, vertebrate paleontology, functional morphology, biological anthropology, or clinical and surgical anatomy are encouraged to apply. The primary teaching responsibility of this position will be to collaboratively deliver our pre-clinical, cadaver-based curriculum. We also expect this position to supplement teaching in histology, neuroanatomy, or embryology as fits the applicant’s expertise and departmental needs. Innovative curriculum development in the candidate’s area of expertise will be strongly encouraged. Competitive laboratory start-up support, laboratory space, and salary will be offered. Moving and equipment relocation packages are negotiable.

Applicants should apply by submitting a cover letter expressing their interest and qualifications along with a curriculum vitae, a one-page teaching statement, one-page research statement, and contact information for three people who may provide letters of recommendations to the WesternU employment site when requested, as they are not required at this time. We will begin reviewing applications on October 29, 2018.
