Instructional Faculty – Human Anatomy

The Department of Biology at James Madison University invites applications for a non-tenure track, renewable term faculty position beginning August 25, 2019. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in the anatomical sciences. Hiring will be at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications (Lecturer, Instructor, or Assistant professor) for 10-month (Fall-Spring) appointment.
 
Our student-focused department seeks a candidate with a passion for and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Successful candidates will value a variety of teaching approaches, exhibit an interest in collaborative teaching and course-design, and remain current in pedagogical techniques. Teaching responsibilities will focus on undergraduate human anatomy and the development of an anatomy/physiology course for secondary education students.  Scholarly activity, academic advising, student mentoring and departmental, college, and university service, will also be expected. An M.S. or terminal degree in related field is required. Prior experience with human cadavers is preferred.

About the Department:
The Biology Department at James Madison University currently serves over 1000 undergraduate majors and 19 master’s students. The 55 full time faculty members are engaged in teaching and research in a broad range of sub-disciplines. It offers a wide variety of courses for biology majors, general education and pre-health profession majors, including a 4-semester lab-intensive core curriculum. Our departmental focus involves active engagement of students with faculty in mentored research experiences. The anatomy program serves undergraduate biology, kinesiology, pre-nursing and pre-professional health students, as well as graduate programs in Physician Assistant and Occupational Therapy. Facilities include a brand new gross anatomy dissection laboratory and state-of-the-art undergraduate anatomy laboratories with prosected human cadavers and extensive anatomical resources.
