PhD Position in Palaeolithic lithic analysis (m/f/d; E13 TV-L, 65%)
The Paleoanthropology Workgroup at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences, University of Tübingen invites applications for a PhD position in lithic analysis of Palaeolithic artifacts.
The position will start as soon as possible and will be limited to a period of 3 years. Salary will be according to the German salary system E13 TV-L at 65%.
Applicants must hold a MA/MSc degree or equivalent and must have research experience in the fields of Palaeolithic Archaeology, Palaeoanthropology, or Prehistoric Archaeology (with specialization in the Palaeolithic). The successful applicant will have experience with lithic analysis, preferably involving Lower and Middle Palaeolithic material. Familiarity with the Palaeolithic record of the Southern Balkans and/or the southeastern Mediterranean region will be preferred. The successful applicant will work in an interdisciplinary research program, which includes zooarchaeological studies of associated faunal remains and traceological analysis of lithic artifacts; overall, the research aims to examine the cultural remains in conjunction with the study of the faunal remains, in order to investigate the degree to which behavioral adaptations and cultural variation relate to changes in ecological conditions.
Applicants are required to have a very good command of spoken and written English, and some experience in the writing of scientific publications. The successful applicant must be prepared to travel abroad at least twice a year for the study of materials (travel costs will be covered).
