Description Summary:

The Department of Anatomy, College of Graduate Studies, invites application for a full-time (1.0 FTE) non-tenure track faculty position at the level of Instructor of Anatomy. The instructor will provide support for the Anatomy Department which is responsible for teaching four disciplines: gross anatomy, histology, embryology, and neuroscience. The instructor will mostly be involved with the laboratory portions of courses taught by the Department, especially gross anatomy courses with use of human dissections and prosections. The instructor will be also given the opportunity of in class lecture delivery. Finally, if desired, the instructor can participate in ongoing research projects or develop an individual project in the anatomical science field. This position reports to the Department Chair of Anatomy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Work closely with the Course Directors, the faculty, and Anatomical Laboratory Manager to successfully deliver the Anatomy Laboratory curriculum -Teach in the laboratory portions of our gross anatomy, histology, and neuroscience courses under the supervision of the individual Course Directors -Work with the Course Directors in all aspects of educational assessment (e.g., laboratory practical exams), including exam construction (e.g., anatomical labeling, proctoring) -Prepare prosected specimens as needed

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

-A Ph.D. in Anatomical Sciences is preferable. No post-doc experience is required. -Alternatively, a master's degree in Anatomical or Biomedical Sciences with 1-3 years of teaching experience is required. -Expertise in and experience teaching a dissection-based, human gross anatomy course. -While gross anatomy experience is the primary focus of the position, preference will be given to candidates with additional experience in histology and neuroscience as well as some record of scholarship in research.

Software Skills:

Must have proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Language Skills:

High skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, descriptions of technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to top management, and boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

High skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram or schedule format.

While performing the duties of the job the employee is occasionally required to sit and frequently required to stand and walk. This job requires an extensive use of hands (fine sensory and motor functions are essential) and arms. The ability to talk and hear is also required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This individual will be occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
