The aim is to investigate biomechanical strategies African great apes employ to arboreal locomotion. This project is based on a narrow and long-standing collaboration between PALEVOPRIM (http://palevoprim.labo.univ-poitiers.fr/language/en/) and the laboratory of biomechanics, RoBioss (UPR 3046 PPrime - Mechanical Engineering and Complex Mechanisms: https://pprime.fr/en/research/mechanical-engineering-and-complex-systems/) and the zoological parc “La Vallée des Singes” (https://www.la-vallee-des-singes.fr/en/unique-in-france/). This is a 16 months contract related to the following projects: HOMTECH (funded by the Agence Nationale pour la Recherche: http://homtech.prd.fr/objective-4/) and LocHoSiM (funded by the Région Nouvelle Aquitaine: http://palevoprim.labo.univ-poitiers.fr/language/en/2020/10/12/lochosim-2020-2023/). We welcome scholars with a background either in biological anthropology, primatology, biomechanics or computer science. Applicants who have skills in motion capture/ analysis, programming (e.g. MATLAB, Python), and/or artificial intelligence will be particularly considered. Qualifications: A PhD or equivalent degree is required by the time of appointment.
