Assistant Professor, Archaeology
The Evolutionary Wing of the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with specialization in archaeology. Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. in Anthropology, or a closely related field, by the first day of courses (September 2017) and have a record of original research and publication focusing on hunter-gatherer or transitional agricultural societies in the Americas, with a preference for Western North America. The successful applicant will show a clear plan for a continuing program of theoretically-driven research based in field and/or laboratory work that complements current faculty strengths in the Evolutionary Wing.
The position is a nine-month appointment starting July 1, 2017. Teaching duties include four courses per academic year (quarter system) at the introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate level. Courses may include introductory offerings in Archaeology and World Prehistory, an upper division course in Field Methods, and a graduate seminar. The candidate will develop additional classes in their field of research, perform undergraduate and graduate advising, and supervise graduate and undergraduate student research.
