Assistant Professor – Archaeological Anthropology – Department of Anthropology UC Berkeley

The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor Faculty position, in the area of anthropological archaeology, with an expected start date of July 1, 2017. We are interested in candidates whose theoretical emphases and methodological expertise will complement and expand those of the existing faculty. The successful candidate will conduct multi-scalar research through interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary engagement with the past, and will consider the respective roles of humans; the things they make; and the environments they shape and are shaped by. The ideal candidate will engage with critical questions in anthropology, and demonstrate evidence of reflexive attention to the broader context of archaeological research in contemporary society. World area and methodological emphases are open. We are interested in candidates with a demonstrated ability to contribute to our dynamic undergraduate and graduate program in archaeology and commitment to fostering analytical and critical thinking through engaged scholarship. Candidates should have teaching experience in anthropology, with evidence of teaching potential and effectiveness preferred.

Basic qualifications: The completion of all PhD or equivalent degree requirements except the dissertation at the time of application

Additional Qualification: The Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required by the start date.
