The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) Department of Anatomy is seeking applications towards a full-time, 12-month position responsible for the education in pre-clinical didactic and active learning educational programs at ICOM. The primary responsibilities include teaching cadaveric dissection in the gross anatomy laboratory with potential teaching in embryology, histology, and/or neuroanatomy in large and small group learning environments. Additionally, the ideally experienced candidate will assist the Department Chair and colleagues with course planning, prosection, anatomical and other in-house publications, student research, and development/management of additional graduate programs.
Teaching osteopathic medical students didactic course materials in anatomy, embryology, histology, and/or neuroanatomy
Advising and mentoring osteopathic medical students
Service to the academic mission of the College by serving on institutional committees and using academic expertise to serve your discipline and professional community
Scholarly activities: including but not limited to any of the following: independent scientific research in field of specialty; clinical or translational research; educational research in the area of medical education; published educational materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal degree (PhD) in the areas of anatomy, biological anthropology, biology, or any closely related field (ABD will be considered but degree must be conferred by anticipated start date)
Teaching experience in gross anatomy, embryology, histology, and/or neuroanatomy, preferably at the medical school level
Evidence of being a dynamic team player who values collaboration, collegiality, mutual support and team cohesion
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using innovative teaching methods which might include team-based learning, ‘flipped classroom’, problem-based learning, distance learning, interactive large group presentation
Experience with instructional design, learning management systems, and curriculum mapping
Experience in educational theory, evaluation, and learning assessment
Proficiency in medical exam item writing (COMLEX-style and/or USMLE)
Track record of scholarly activities (publications, presentations, grantsmanship, etc.) player who values collaboration, mutual support and team cohesion
