The Department of Health and Human Performance at High Point University invites applications for a full-time 12-month faculty position, renewable annually, at the Assistant Professor rank. The candidate will join a team of anatomists who will teach undergraduate and graduate anatomy in the Congdon School of Health Sciences (CSHS) and carry out independent and collaborative research in anatomy-related areas. The Department of Health and Human Performance includes two undergraduate majors: Exercise Science (BS) and Health and Wellness (BA). CSHS is also the academic home to the Departments of Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Athletic Training, and Medical Sciences. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The anticipated start date for this position is August 15, 2025.

The primary teaching responsibilities would encompass 1) introductory and advanced (cadaveric dissection) level undergraduate human anatomy and anatomy adjacent courses in Health and Human Performance, and 2) collaborative teaching in gross anatomy for graduate programs. The faculty member will be joining a team of anatomists in a brand new, state-of-the-art anatomy laboratory and anatomical gifts program. The faculty member will share a brand-new designated research laboratory.

The Department is teaching-oriented with faculty from varied scientific disciplines who share a common interest in the human form, health and wellness, physical activity, and human movement. The successful candidate will establish or maintain a record of scholarship in a relevant field and mentor undergraduate student research, undergraduate student advisement, assistance in developing and advancing the curriculum, commitment to program assessment, and collaboration with related academic programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
• Ph.D. in Anatomy, Biological Anthropology, Biology or related field.
• Postdoctoral experience and strong academic credentials in the discipline of anatomy or related field is preferred.

Experience and Training:
• Academic teaching experience with cadaveric dissection
• Developed research agenda
• Published peer-reviewed manuscripts

Required:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work cooperatively with others
• Contribute to the educational and research missions of the department, school, and university

Preferred:
• Record of excellence in teaching and research, and a commitment to excellence in anatomy education and research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Participation in didactic and laboratory teaching activities relating to anatomy in the department’s curricula as determined by the Department Chair.
• Collaborate with departmental colleagues for curriculum design and delivery.
• Provide mentorship and advisement for students in the Department of Health and Human Performance.
• Communicate teaching and research activities through frequent and effective communication with the Department Chair.
• Publish scientific findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present research at regional and national meetings.
• Integrate and enhance interactions between the Departments of Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Athletic Training, and Medical Science in areas of research, education, and service.
• Advance the service missions of the Departments of Health and Human Performance, Congdon School of Health Sciences, and High Point University to meet community needs.
• Act as a representative and advocate for the department, school, and the university.
• Actively participate in committees within the department, school, and university in professional and governmental organizations.
• Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair.
