Assistant Professor – Tenure-Track Position – Sociology, Criminology, and Anthropology – 21266
ATTENTION:
The Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Anthropology in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of biological anthropology beginning August 2025.
This is a 9-month full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in anthropology and criminal justice, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and should include specialization in forensic anthropology, skeletal biology, and/or bioarcheology.
JOB DETAILS:
The successful candidate will be able to teach Forensic Documentation, Advanced Forensic Anthropology, Introduction to Archaeology, Introduction to Biological Anthropology, and other courses serving anthropology and general education. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace inclusion as a member of the university community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in anthropology, or closely related field is required. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2025; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2026 in advance of their first scheduled review.

• Demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, commitment to inclusivity and serving as active member of the university community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary trainings and drills
• Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full-Time teaching responsibilities include a rotation of courses including Forensic Documentation, Advanced Forensic Anthropology, Introduction to Archaeology, and Introduction to Biological Anthropology. Research expectations include publication and other scholarly work. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations as relevant to the candidate's expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format. Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving to student success.

Sociology, Criminology, and Anthropology (https://www.uww.edu/cls/departments/sociology-criminology-anthro) is a multi-disciplinary department that has 14 full and part-time faculty and academic staff. It serves over 200 undergraduate majors and over 200 minors. It offers five undergraduate certificate programs, two student organizations, two national honor societies, as well as internship and undergraduate research opportunities for all students. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting salary within a range of $60,000 – $65,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
