The 15th International Meeting of the Society for Anthropology will be held March 30th to April 03rd, 2025 in Kiel (Germany).
Abstract submission deadline: January 31, 2025.
Moving Forward in Biological Anthropology
Anthropology is the central field for understanding our species and our existence with and within the environment – in the past, present and future.
Currently, we live in a world in which borders are being forcibly shifted or intensified, social and economic inequality are increasing, infectious diseases evolve and spread rapidly, and our basis of existence is threatened by climate change and the biodiversity crisis. In consequence, the field of biological anthropology holds a special mission for the near and distant future.
The GfA constitutes the central professional and scientific organization for biological anthropology in Germany and the DACH network, bridging disciplines such as human biology, medicine, forensics, archaeology and the environmental sciences.
In this function, we are confronted with some fundamental questions: How can we, as an academic and expert community, live up to this mission? Which obstacles do we have to overcome both within and beyond our professional spheres to open up new potentials and perspectives? Answers are to be found in discussions on inter- and transdisciplinary research, conversational and historical assignments, cooperation, future generations, funding and science communication.
This conference offers a discussion forum on “Moving Forward in Biological Anthropology” – on a community level, in both the individual working groups and in mutual exchange. The focus is set on three key issues:
– Interdisciplinarity in balance – creating synergies and bridges instead of “Trojan horses”
– Communicative effects – how can we disseminate our results to the general public?
– Research funding and future prospects – strategies for people, working groups, institutions, foundations, universities
