The Department of Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a lecturer of biological anthropology to begin either in January 2025 or August 2025.

We seek a forensic anthropologist to teach sections of introductory biological anthropology, forensic science including forensic anthropology, osteology and upper-level undergraduate courses based on the candidate’s area of specialization. The selected candidate will teach a 4/4 load (with the possibility of additional summer courses) and must have experience in applied forensic anthropology. This is a permanent, full-time position which can be renewed yearly. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to partner with interdisciplinary programs across campus and be a part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary department.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

A PhD in Anthropology is preferred. Individuals who are ABD may be considered, but the degree must be awarded within 12 months of the first semester of employment.

Candidates must have demonstrated experience in applied forensic anthropology. Preference will be given to qualified applicants who also have prior forensic casework (as primary analyst or first author) experience, and who can continue casework with the Hamilton County Medical Examiner Office.

Applicants must be able to teach forensic anthropology, and a range of topics related to biological anthropology. Preference will be given to individuals with existing experience teaching courses on these topics: biological anthropology, forensic science, forensic anthropology, and osteology.

Candidates must have demonstrated potential to teach in a variety of instructional modalities, including lab-based, online, and face-to-face. Preference will be given to applicants with experience utilizing High Impact Educational Practices (HIEP), including active and experiential learning.

Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC’s Strategic Plan.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., a teaching portfolio including a two-page teaching philosophy, syllabi, and teaching evaluations).

Additionally, candidates will need to include names, titles, and email addresses for three (3) references for confidential letters of recommendation to be requested. Letters of recommendation will only be requested for the position finalists.

Expected Salary Range: $40,000 – $45,000
