JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Anthropology in the College of the Liberal Arts is seeking a Research Technologist – Animal Sciences. This position is responsible for assisting in the performance of a wide variety of specialized tasks in the Kawasaki/Perrine Image Analysis and Morphometrics Lab.

The key responsibilities for this position include:

Assist with regular observation and maintenance of our mouse colony at the Millennium Science Complex

Assist with histological and experimental sample preparation in the Department of Anthropology

Photograph histological images for analysis

Assist in record-keeping for data management of mouse breeding, mouse genotyping, and associated histology and staining

Assist in laboratory experiments to prepare mouse samples for genotyping, other biochemical assays, and imaging

Handling of mice for embryological analysis (mouse handling includes setting up timed mating, tail clipping, ear tagging, and collecting embryos)

Education and Experience: This position will be filled as a Research Technologist – Animal Sciences – Professional, which requires a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

It is desirable for applicants to have a minimum of 6 months of experience in a wet lab setting, be familiar with chemistry lab safety and waste disposal procedures, and have some practical lab skills. The preferred candidate must have previous experience of animal husbandry or a willingness to learn embryology of mammals. The individual should also have some experience dealing with different formats of image files and database systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are necessary. Applicants also need the ability to problem solve based on their conceptual knowledge of chemistry, biology, and/or genetics.

Additional Information: This is a limited-term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire with a possibility of renewal.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 – $50,500.00
