Touro University California currently has an excellent opportunity on our Mare Island campus for an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Foundational Biomedical Sciences within College of Osteopathic Medicine.
We are seeking a person with a substantial interest in medical education and training and experience teaching human gross anatomy in a dissection-based course. Additional experience in teaching clinically relevant embryology, imaging, and/or incorporating technology to augment learning is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a research or scholarship program in their own biological field and/or in medical education while working with a talented team of departmental instructors in new state-of-the-art educational facilities. Teaching responsibilities will be centered on team-taught gross anatomy for the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and for the Master of Science in Medical Health Science (MSMHS) program while helping to advance the educational mission of the Department of Foundational Biomedical Science (FBS) and interdisciplinary educational initiatives in the COM.

Position Description:
A faculty member in FBS will be expected to contribute in the following three areas: Teaching for both the TUCOM MSMHS and COM programs, research, and service (specifics described below). The specific tasks and workload are assigned by the chair. Faculty members assume the responsibility of developing, recommending, and executing all approved policies of instruction. The faculty shall consist of individuals who have been appointed to the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor.
Responsibilities
Broad Responsibilities:
A faculty member in FBS is responsible for the delivery of a portion of the curriculum suitable to their training and experience. They are expected to contribute new knowledge to an academic field of endeavor, whether through bench or clinical research or scholarly writings. They are expected to assist the University in meeting academic or related committee responsibilities. All these duties require that the faculty member remain current in their academic field through participation in professional development activities.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and deliver lectures or laboratory lessons on assigned topics.
• Advise and mentor students.
• Participate in the planning of the curriculum.
• Design and implement appropriate learning assessments.
• Facilitate student learning through provision of office hours.
• Promote an appropriate atmosphere for student education and be responsive to student needs.
• Design and execute original research studies in an ethical manner.
• Seek research funding through grants, contracts, or other awards.
• Publish research findings at in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
• Provide reports, budgetary information, and other documents, as requested by Department Chairs, Directors, and Deans
• Participate in medical student admission interviews.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATION(S):
• Ph.D in anatomy or a related foundational biomedical science.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
• Strong knowledge base in specialty area(s)
• A demonstrated ability and desire to teach.
• Evidence of research productivity/promise
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm and motivation to contribute to the growth and development of the Foundational Biomedical Science department of Touro University California.
Salary and rank are based on experience; salary range $105k-$140k.
