Survey on bipedalism

Submitted 21/10/2025 by Mathilde Lequin

The IRN Bipedal Equilibrium is a program funded by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique Ecologie & Environnement. It studies bipedalism through a transdisciplinary, evolutionary, and comparative approach. Its objectives are to advance fundamental knowledge, refine tools, and develop new methodological approaches in the spirit of open science.

As part of this program, we are running an international survey on hominin bipedalism. We aim to better understand how scholars think about bipedalism, its role in defining hominins, and how the frameworks used to study it might be improved.

Perspectives from all fields are welcome! The survey takes about 10 minutes, and your input will directly contribute to ongoing research, with results to be analyzed in a publication. Please complete it before December 31, 2025.
