Field Technician
Field technician at the Paleoanthropology Working Group, University of Tübingen (m/f/d, E 9b TV-L, 50%)
The Paleoanthropology Group of the Institute of Archaeological Sciences, Department of Geosciences, the University of Tübingen seeks to fill a 50 % limited (2 years) position of a
Field technician / E9b TV-L.
Your tasks:
• Independent planning and execution of all work steps of a Paleolithic, international, archaeological excavation (incl. organization of staff, budget planning, logistics).
• Setting up of the excavation grid with the help of specialized equipment (e.g. total station), processing of the excavation and documentation and processing and determination of finds.
• Documentation of results in databases and preparation of results and finds for digital long-term archiving
• Statistical evaluations of the archaeological material
• Writing of a technical as well as scientific excavation report
• Desired: Photogrammetric evaluation of the results of the discovered material at the excavation site with the help of image processing software
• Support of the scientific staff in the preparation of scientific publications and presentation of the results of paleontological and archaeological excavation material
Your profile:
• Training as an archaeotechnician or excavation technician. A university degree (preferably FH-Diplom / Bachelor) in excavation technology or archaeology or a degree as a certified excavation technician according to the Frankfurt model or a university degree in prehistory and early history and/or medieval archaeology or a comparable field of ancient history.
• Experience in planning and execution of paleontological and paleolithic archaeological excavations
• Good knowledge of English
• Confident command of modern excavation and surveying techniques such as tacheometry, GPS, 2D and 3D, etc., as well as proficient handling of the Adiuvabit database and the relevant EDP including Office applications
• Knowledge of the excavation guidelines and the guidelines on occupational health and safety
• Physical resilience appropriate to the activity (use on construction sites)
• Relevant computer skills (MS-Office)
• Distinct ability to work in a team and persevering readiness for action
• High flexibility
• Driving license class B and willingness to drive an excavation bus in international traffic
• Experience in the use of databases and in the digital documentation and evaluation of palaeontological and archaeological excavation material
• Desired: Several years of professional experience as an excavation technician
