NAGPRA Coordinator/Program Manager
The University of Utah Office of Research Integrity and Compliance invites applications for a full-time NAGPRA Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have an M.A./M.S.in anthropology or a related field at time of appointment, minimum 3-years of experience with NAGPRA compliance, consultation, and project management, knowledge of human osteology, and knowledge of the archaeology/ethnohistory of western North America, including the Colorado Plateau, Southwest, and Great Basin. Responsibilities for this position include implementation of NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) across the university (including, but not limited to, the Natural History Museum of Utah), managing the inventory and curation of NAGPRA collections (osteological and artifactual), coordinating with state and federal repositing agencies to ensure they fulfill their NAGPRA responsibilities, establishing and maintaining relationships with tribal communities, serving as the institutional point of contact for inquiries seeking information on Native American ancestral remains and objects falling under NAGPRA, overseeing the repatriation of NAGPRA-eligible culturally- and geographically-affiliated remains and objects, overseeing non-NAGPRA ethical repatriation of Indigenous items, attending Indigenous Advisory Committee meetings, and serving on the Repatriation Task Force and Governing Board.
