Applications are invited for the position of Editor-in-Chief for Evolutionary Anthropology

Evolutionary Anthropology, published by John Wiley & Sons (Wiley), is an authoritative review journal that focuses on issues of current interest in biological anthropology, paleoanthropology, archaeology, functional morphology, social biology, and bone biology—including dentition and osteology—as well as human biology, genetics, and ecology. In addition to lively, well-illustrated articles reviewing contemporary research efforts, this journal also publishes general news of relevant developments in the scientific, social, or political arenas. The current Editor-in-Chief, Jason Kamilar, will be stepping down in July 2023. Wiley seeks to appoint a successor to lead the journal and build on its strengths.

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief
The Editor-in-Chief of Evolutionary Anthropology will commission high quality review articles in conjunction with the Editorial Board, oversee the peer review of manuscripts and be ultimately responsible for all editorial decisions made at the journal. In addition, he/she/they should commission topical Special Issues. The Editor-in-Chief will be supported by an active Editorial Board as well as the Wiley team that includes the Journals Publishing Manager, Editorial Office and Production staff.

The Editor-in-Chief of Evolutionary Anthropology shall also:
Provide leadership and direction for the journal
Develop and refine the journal’s vision, scope and strategic direction
Collaborate with Wiley staff on strategy, processes, and new initiatives
Ensure an efficient and fair peer review process
Ensure the integrity of research published in the journal, promptly flagging potential ethical issues to the Publisher
Drive the journal development by engaging new technologies to advance journal efficiency, impact and diversity
Network and advocate on behalf of the journal within the community
Review and communicate all final decision recommendations for the manuscripts handled
Communicate effectively with all prospective authors, reviewers, members of the Editorial Board and the Wiley team.
Support diversity, inclusion and equity for the journal

Selection criteria for the role of Editor-in-Chief include:
Current academic employment at a research University;
Familiarity with Evolutionary Anthropology’s aims and scope and involvement with the journal as a previously published author, reviewer, or Editorial Board member;
Experience in peer review of journal papers, special issue editorship and/or editor experience;
Editorial Board membership of one or more journals in the field;
Leadership, communication, organisational and project management skills;

The official term of the appointment is three years beginning 1 August 2023, although a work shadow opportunity with the current Editor-in-Chief will be possible prior to this. The post carries an annual stipend.
