3-Year Term Faculty: Biological/Forensic Anthropologist

Position Description
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, invites applications for a three-year term Biological Anthropologist, specializing in forensic anthropology and human taphonomy, beginning August 29, 2022. This is a full-time, campus-based position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a 3-3 teaching load.

The applicant must be able to teach introductory-level courses in biological anthropology and general (four-field) anthropology, upper-level Forensic Anthropology and Human Osteology courses, and other courses as needed. The development of new courses to enhance and build on the curriculum offered by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology is encouraged.

The individual who is offered and accepts this position will be expected to have regular involvement with the operations and research at the NMU Forensic Research Outdoor Station (FROST), an outdoor human taphonomy research facility, and to assist with forensic anthropology casework.

Qualifications
Education: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology. ABD candidates will be considered if they have a reasonable expectation to have their degree in-hand by June 30, 2022.

Other Desired Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching in undergraduate anthropology courses, and be able to develop and teach courses in areas that complement the needs of the Department. We are particularly interested in candidates who whose research and teaching interests complement other interests in the department and on campus, such as: skeletal analysis methods, human evolution, human variation, human taphonomy, biochemical analysis, and forensic science. The ideal candidate will be trained as a forensic anthropologist with experience in conducting casework, report writing, maintaining chain-of-custody, and working with the law enforcement community. The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate an active research agenda and the ability to employ quantitative methods in research.
