Biological Anthropologist

Description:

The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a biological anthropologist to be appointed beginning in autumn 2023. We seek an anatomically trained scientist with a research program grounded in evolutionary biology. Research area is open; however, preferred research foci include skeletal/dental biology, biomechanics, functional morphology, and/or paleoanthropology. We seek applicants who will augment the department’s strength in evolutionary anthropology, contributing to ongoing research in skeletal adaptation, functional morphology, dental anthropology, bioarchaeology, and primate (including hominin) evolution. The preferred candidate will also strengthen research and teaching links with colleagues in other units such as those in the College of Medicine, the College of Dentistry, and/or the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences. An ability to contribute to the department’s growing forensic science program is a bonus, but not required. Assistant professors in the Department of Anthropology are expected to maintain an active research program as evidenced by journal or book publications and proposals for external funding. We also seek a colleague who will mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. Demonstrated research productivity and excellence in teaching are required. The candidate will have the ability to offer a range of classes that can include osteology, dental anthropology, anatomy, paleoanthropology, bioarchaeology, and/or forensics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
