Description
The Department of Anthropology at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a full-time
tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in biological anthropology. We seek a
scholar with an active research agenda that focuses on biocultural processes related to health and
disease within Latin American or Caribbean populations. Candidates who study living
populations and topics related to health and disease, diet and nutrition, growth and development,
and related themes are encouraged to apply. Research agendas with clear theoretical foundations
in the scholarly fields of evolutionary medicine and the Developmental Origins of Health and
Disease (DOHaD) will be viewed favorably. Candidates should have an active lab and/or field
research program that can involve undergraduates and graduate students, as well as a
demonstrated commitment to community collaborations and public engagement. We seek a
scholar with holistic training in anthropology or the social sciences. Candidates who exhibit a
deep commitment to research, graduate education, and show a strong record and ongoing
potential for obtaining external grants and publishing in refereed journals are an ideal fit with the
University mission.

The teaching load is 2:2, which will include an introductory Biological Anthropology course,
taught on a rotating basis, mid- to upper-level subfield-specific courses for the curriculum, and
undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s research specialties. We are particularly
interested in candidates who show promise in connecting with other research units on campus
such as CLACX (https://as.vanderbilt.edu/clacx/), Evolutionary Studies
Initiative (https://www.vanderbilt.edu/evolution/), and/or the Institute for Global Health
(https://www.vumc.org/global-health/welcome), among others.

Qualifications
Qualifications: PhD must be in-hand no later than August 15, 2022 when employment starts at
the beginning of Fall 2022 term.
