Assistant Professor – Biological Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Biological Anthropology. The appointment will begin July 1, 2017.

We seek a biological anthropologist with an established research program focused on evolutionary anthropology. Relevant specialities include paleoanthropology, primatology with an evolutionary focus, human physiology and adaptation, and related topics, including behavioural aspects of human evolution. The successful candidate will complement existing faculty strengths across Anthropology at UTM and in the tri-campus Anthropology Graduate Program.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related field by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter, show evidence of excellence in teaching, and demonstrate excellence in research. Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in top ranked and field relevant academic journals or equivalent peer-reviewed venues, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of top international stature. Evidence for excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application.

The University of Toronto Mississauga has an interdisciplinary commitment, a multicultural student body, and a modern and spacious campus, including recently built or renovated research and teaching labs for Anthropology. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an active, innovative, externally funded program of research, to pursue excellence in teaching in the UTM Anthropology undergraduate program (http://www.utm.utoronto.ca/anthropology/), and to actively participate in the tri-campus University of Toronto Anthropology Graduate Program (www.anthropology.utoronto.ca/graduate/), where they may participate in both the Evolutionary Anthropology and Medical Anthropology sub-fields as appropriate.
