Assistant Professor, Anthropology

The Anthropology Department at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in physical/biological anthropology, beginning fall semester 2016. Applicants should have expertise in a subdiscipline of biological anthropology: bioarchaeology, forensic anthropology, genetics, or skeletal biology. This position is part of a set of hires within the University focused on big data; applicants should thus also have experience managing, analyzing, curating and extracting research value from large data sets.
The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, teach a 2-2 load of introductory courses in general anthropology and biological anthropology, elective undergraduate courses, and graduate courses in areas of specialization; mentor graduate students in the department’s MA and PhD programs; and perform departmental, college and university service. Qualifications
Required: PhD in Anthropology or related field by July 1, 2016; active research agenda; desire to work with and develop big data capabilities; desire and ability to contribute to the growth and excellence of a graduate program broadly engaging in bioarchaeology, dental anthropology, and forensics; and desire and ability to educate and mentor anthropology students with either academic or applied career goals.
Preferred: Strong record of external funding and publication; excellence in teaching; robust quantitative, statistical and computing skills; fluency across a broad spectrum of theory in anthropology and biology; laboratory and/or field-laboratory integrated methods; familiarity with R and other coding languages; commitment to multidisciplinary anthropology and a four-field approach; interests that complement existing faculty; and potential to contribute to interdisciplinary areas of collaborative excellence.
