Forensic Anthropology Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Laboratory (DPAA LAB) in Hawaii is currently seeking candidates for our forensic anthropology postdoctoral fellowship program. This program for DPAA is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
ORISE Anthropologist fellows at DPAA conduct a variety of osteological, bioarchaeological, and/or forensic anthropological research and will participate in one of several research projects: Large commingled assemblage from North Korea, Disinterment of Unknown Remains, Chest Radiograph Comparison, Solvability/Resolvability, or Histology. Fellows will also conduct skeletal analysis and material evidence analysis in the Laboratory at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Future projects will be operated at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, NE.
Ideal candidates would possess osteological research experience, archaeological experience, and a demonstrated ability to disseminate research findings at professional conferences and/or through publications.
The intent of the ORISE program is to support STEM researchers as they initiate and conduct collaborative research and accrue experience in an applied laboratory setting. This should complement the Fellows academic training and provide the opportunity for hands-on experience and an opportunity to apply and practice the theories and methods learned in the classroom or private sectors. The DPAA ORISE program looks to expand a Fellows’ knowledge base through educational experiences such as formal trainings, special projects, and attending and presenting at scientific meetings.
More details about DPAA’s mission can be found on our website (http://www.dpaa.mil/)
Applicants should have completed a Ph.D., but A.B.D. Ph.D. candidates will be considered. Appointments are scheduled to last twelve months, the option to have the appointment extended additional terms may be considered on a case by case basis.
Selected PhD Fellows will receive a stipend of $75,720 per year.
Applications are accepted on the ORAU Maryland Website. ORAU Maryland administers research opportunities with the Department of Defense.
