Lectureship (Assistant Professor) in Archaeology

Applications are invited for three lectureships in Archaeology to complement and develop our current research and teaching areas in the subject area of Archaeology and across the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. The preferred fields of specialism are:

• Later Scottish prehistory/especially early historic archaeology in its Insular context; and with a commitment to fieldwork.
• Environmental archaeology/Geoarchaeology
• Digital Archaeology (including GIS and visualisation studies) cf. ‘Digital humanities’
• Osteoarchaeology, both human and animal, including Forensic archaeology and DNA studies
• Near Eastern Archaeology, extending to Egyptology and the archaeology of north Africa
• Landscape Archaeology preferably with an interest or specialism in the British or European Bronze Age

The appointments are tenable from August 2016. All three appointments will be made at Lecturer grade (UE08). At least one of the posts will be expected to contribute significantly to the development of an innovative Archaeology MSc DL programme in collaboration with History within SHCA. A joint History-Archaeology programme extending the current successful History offering is the primary target, to foster increasing collaboration between History and Archaeology within the School. In addition, there are many opportunities to interact with other parts of the University and beyond in order to further the candidates research agenda.

The successful candidates will have a PhD or equivalent experience, and will be established researchers in Archaeology, with enthusiasm to undertake original research, and the ability to engage with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and academic supervision.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in research. They will be able to demonstrate through a range of specialist research publications their ability to contribute to the research culture of the School and to play an active part in seeking external funding support for research.
