Teaching Technician (Anatomy and Histology)
This position will provide laboratory/ teaching assistance for a variety of courses taught to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students. Greater than 50% of the instruction time will be spent with anatomy and histology courses. For these courses, the position will need to assist in the histology and anatomy teaching laboratory, including: general lab maintenance, specimen collection, preparation and repair of models, preparation of cadavers for dissection, assist in laboratory instruction of DVM students in microscopic and gross anatomical courses and electives (including preparation of laboratory examinations grading), and handling live animals for use in palpation and certain elective courses. Participation in other teaching laboratories will vary and may include laboratory set up (supplies/specimens), microscope set up, computer lab set up, administering and grading exams, and assisting teaching.
Required Skills: Knowledge of animal biology and basic anatomy. Familiarity with biological chemical fixatives. Will have understanding of all regulatory standards that apply to a laboratory in which live animals and formalin fixed specimens are used. MS Word and MS Excel for communication and data collection.
Minimum Experience/Education: Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
