Assistant Professor, Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh is seeking a broadly-trained field archaeologist for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2017. Geographic specialty is open. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching in an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education. It will be expected that the person appointed to this role will demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity and gender issues, as SUNY Plattsburgh is committed to ensuring that its graduates are educated to succeed in an increasingly complex, multicultural, and interdependent world.

Responsibilities Include: Teaching courses to undergraduate students including human evolution and archaeology. Contributing to other departmental offerings and developing area specialty courses. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research program that can involve undergraduate students and to provide service to the department, college and profession. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology at the time of appointment. Teaching experience is essential and evidence of teaching effectiveness and innovative pedagogy are also required. Evidence of active field experience is also required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators.
