Job 1 Title: Graduate Assistantship for Traditionally Underrepresented Graduate Students

Job Description: The Graduate Assistantship (GA) for Traditionally Underrepresented Graduate Students in Anthropology is available to an incoming full-time MA or MAA student. The GA will support an individual from an underrepresented group (including Black/African American, Hispanic American, American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander) beginning their graduate education at Boise State University in the 2017/2018 academic year. The graduate student recruited under this program will have a research position participating in an existing faculty lab group or research projects. Lab groups focus on human behavioral ecology, archaeology of western North America, and bioarchaeology.

Context: The Anthropology Department is a growing, research-oriented faculty with a thematic focus on human evolution and ecology. The department is committed to applying the scientific method to understanding the behavior, ecology, social relations, and sustainable resource use by our species. Upon successful completion of the first year in the program an additional year of funding will be made available to ensure completion of the program in a timely manner. As an added benefit, upon successful completion of the master’s degree, you will be well-prepared to apply to continue your studies in the Ph.D. in Evolution, Ecology and Behavior at Boise State University.

Duties: Graduate Assistantships are competitive, based on student’s academic record and are offered by invitation only. Full-time GA’s are eligible to receive a tuition waiver for 9-12 graduate-level credits during the upcoming semester. Graduate assistant tuition support is available for fall and spring semesters only. Graduate assistants are assigned to work 20 hours per week, must carry a full course load of at least 9 credit hours per semester, and must maintain a minimum 3.5 overall GPA.
Qualifications: Graduate Assistants must be full-time, unconditionally accepted MA or MAA candidates with a record of excellent academic performance.

Location of Position: Boise, Idaho

Anticipated Start Date and/or Length of Employment: August 15 – May 15

Hours (Graduate Assistantship positions cannot exceed 20 hours per week per GA Policy #7170)

Compensation: $15,000 stipend for 9 months

Job Title: Graduate Assistantship in Design Anthropology

Job Description: The Graduate Assistantship (GA) in Design Anthropology is available to an incoming full-time MA or MAA student beginning their graduate education at Boise State University in the 2017/2018 academic year. The graduate student recruited under this program will have a teaching or service position in our online undergraduate Design Ethnography Certificate. https://cid.boisestate.edu/ethnography/. The Design Ethnography Certificate helps prepare students for emerging careers in user research, user experience (UX), service design, product design, branding, marketing, and organizational innovation. The GA will assist faculty, coordinate work on real design problems, and consult with industry experts, as well as develop program marketing and teach overflow sections.
