The Department of Anthropology is one of 16 departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts & Sciences. The Department offers the BA and MA degrees and has 14 faculty who have a history of collaboration with programs in Maritime History, Biology, Public Health, Coastal Studies, and the Brody School of Medicine.
Job Duties
The Department of Anthropology at East Carolina University (ECU) seeks a biomedical anthropologist for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor starting August 13, 2018. We seek applications from candidates with a field or lab-based research program that crosses disciplinary boundaries to explore biological, social, cultural, environmental, and dimensions of health and the human experience. Examples include combining forensic and cultural anthropology to address increased deaths along the U.S.-Mexico border or biocultural and medical anthropology to examine the relationships between occupational health and substance abuse.
The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory courses in general anthropology and biological anthropology as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in cultural and biological anthropology. Appropriate service to the university, community, and profession is expected.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in anthropology is required. Qualifying degree must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should have experience in securing external funding and demonstrate their potential for research and publication. Associate Professor-level applicants are expected to have active portable funding.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Preference will be given to candidates who can address how their research complements one or more of the newly developed research clusters at ECU (Bio-Medical Sciences & Engineering; Energy and Natural Resources; Chronic Disease; Health Behavior; Precision Medicine; and Marine and Coastal Systems).
