Assistant Professor of Anthropology

The Department of Sociology & Anthropology in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in anthropology with biological expertise. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2018. Candidates must have a PhD in hand by the position start date. Applicants must show evidence of successful college/university level teaching, and have a record of research and publications.

Teaching duties in the undergraduate program include core and service courses at the first and/or second year level including introductory courses in general anthropology and biological anthropology , as well as upper-level courses in the candidate’s fields of expertise. Areas of expertise of interest include but are not limited to general biological anthropology, human osteology, genetics, public health and development, forensic anthropology, medical anthropology or human evolution. We seek candidates who are willing to explore areas of cross-disciplinary collaboration in accordance with their area of expertise. Candidates will have the opportunity develop new upper division biological anthropology courses and equip a biological anthropology lab in a new campus building beginning in 2019.

Our institution operates on the semester system with a 4/4 instructional load, and places an emphasis on undergraduate teaching. The Anthropology Program began in the 1950s, has offered BA and BS degrees since 2000, and is committed to a four fields approach. Today, the program has over 100 declared anthropology majors and 25 minors with 5 full-time anthropology faculty and several adjuncts. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following courses: Anth 1000 Introduction to Anthropology (four fields coverage), Anth 1020: Biological Anthropology, and several courses in their area of expertise.
