Anatomical Laboratory Manager

The Anatomical Laboratory Manager is responsible for proactively managing the facilities, supplies, and equipment that relate to teaching activities in the anatomy department laboratories on the Downers Grove campus, which includes a gross anatomy laboratory. This individual will also work with body donor programs and/or biological supply companies to coordinate the transfer, tracking, and return of all anatomical specimens. The Anatomical Laboratory Manager will assist and help guide student activities in the gross anatomy and/or neuroanatomy laboratories. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in education. Individuals with experience in a gross anatomy laboratory, the mortuary science industry and/or management will be given preference.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Anticipating and coordinating needs related to the use of the anatomical laboratories:
• Scheduling laboratory usage, coordinating laboratory access, and maintaining records of the use of gross anatomy laboratories.
• Ordering, receiving, returning, tracking, and keeping records of anatomical specimens, laboratory supplies, and other laboratory/anatomical materials.
• Setting up, maintaining, and arranging anatomical specimens (human cadavers, brains, etc.), equipment, and materials for laboratory classes, laboratory exams, and cadaver cocooning.
• Designing a budget, and maintaining accurate records of anatomical specimens, laboratory supplies, replacement of tools, AV equipment, other equipment, anatomical models, skeletons, formaldehyde testing, and other physical aspects of the infrastructure of the anatomy laboratories.
• Making and updating videos and PowerPoints on laboratory set up, laboratory safety, and cadaver cocooning.
2. Overseeing adherence to and updating safety protocols, OSHA standards, and formaldehyde testing in the laboratory.
3. Supervising and assisting the Laboratory Assistant with laboratory set up, laboratory cleaning, cadaver preparation, maintenance, laboratory exams, and cocooning duties; periodic formaldehyde testing, etc.
4. Assisting and guiding student activities in the gross anatomy and/or neuroanatomy laboratories.
5. Perform other duties related to the anatomy laboratories as assigned.
