The Department of Social Medicine is seeking a professor or associate professor to chair the evolving department. Academic leadership experience and PhD required. Discipline within social science and humanities is open, including, but not limited to, anthropology, public health, sociology, psychology, history, and political science. Candidates should be experienced and possess a strong record of research, publishing and grants activity. The successful candidate will hold a tenured faculty position in the Department of Social Medicine, a multi-disciplinary department comprised of social scientists who study the social, political, historic, and cultural determinants of health. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set the direction for the Department of Social Medicine
• Supervise, advise, and support faculty and staff
• Conduct ongoing research
• Offer lectures to medical students in the candidate’s fields of interest
• Represent the Department to the College and University community

Ohio University is a public university with a main campus located in Athens, Ohio. Founded in 1804, it is the oldest university in the Northwest Territory and the ninth oldest public university in the United States. The Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Central Ohio Extension Campus is located minutes from downtown Columbus in Dublin, Ohio. Columbus is home to a multitude of world-class medical and health resources, businesses, academic institutions, and diverse cultural and recreational opportunities. In fall 2015, the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine will open an extension campus in Cleveland (HCOM-Cleveland Clinic) in conjunction with the Cleveland Clinic to increase access to health care for underserved urban populations and broaden research opportunities for Social Medicine faculty. The department chair will be located at the Athens campus, but will be responsible for Social Medicine faculty at all three locations.
