Assistant Professor (Historic Archaeology)

Duties and Responsibilities
1. This position will be responsible for teaching upper and lower division courses in Archaeology. Responsibilities include teaching courses in Archaeology, World Archaeology, Historic Archaeology, Archaeological Field Techniques, Archaeological Laboratory Techniques, Senior Project/Practicum—plus related courses in areas of the professor’s expertise.
2. In addition to teaching within their disciplines, all faculty members at UHWO are expected to engage in scholarly activity, participate in curriculum development, provide service to the profession and broader community, teach courses using distance methods, participate in program assessment, advise students and supervise senior projects, practicum and readings courses, and participate in faculty governance.

Minimum Qualifications
1. PhD from an accredited college or university in Archaeology, with a specialization in Historic Archaeology. (ABD candidates will be considered, but must complete all degree requirements prior to the appointment.)
2. Prior field and laboratory experience in Historic Archaeology.
3. Willingness to continue fieldwork at the nearby Honouliuli Internment and POW Camp.
4. Potential for continued scholarly and applied research.
5. Evidence of high quality teaching.
6. The ability to effectively communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Desirable Qualifications
1. Proven ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting; experience teaching and working with highly diverse communities.
2. Knowledge and experience in Forensic Archaeology, to complement the current Certificate in Applied Forensic Anthropology curriculum.
3. Expertise in fauna/floral analysis, ceramics, museum studies, GIS, or other applied laboratory skillset.
4. Demonstrated ability to teach distance education courses.
5. Proven ability to write and/or administer grants.
