Associate or Full Professor / Program Director of Forensic Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Western Carolina University seeks to hire a forensic anthropologist at the rank of associate or full professor to begin August 2015. The successful candidate will direct the forensic anthropology program while working collaboratively with the two departmental American Board of Forensic Anthropology diplomates. Program Director responsibilities include curriculum oversight, student recruitment and retention, community outreach, strategic planning, program development, and program evaluation. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research with undergraduate students and teach a variety of undergraduate courses in forensic and biological anthropology. Areas of specialization are open.

The undergraduate anthropology program at Western Carolina University is one of a kind with an outdoor human decomposition research laboratory (the Forensic Osteology Research Station) and a growing willed body donation program. WCU embraces its role as a regionally engaged university and is designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a community engaged university. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to public engagement through their teaching, service, and scholarship; who have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students; and who have a record of external funding.

At the time of application applicants are required to have 1) a Ph.D. in Anthropology with an emphasis in Forensic Anthropology, 2) an active research program with a record of publications in forensic anthropology, 3) experience teaching and mentoring students at the graduate or undergraduate level, and 4) a record of teaching, scholarship, and service to qualify at the appropriate rank. Degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
