Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for a Forensic Anthropologist/ Director of Forensic Facility. The Director is responsible for the oversight and coordination of a new forensic anthropology research laboratory and the development of an outdoor forensic research facility focusing on the study of human decomposition. The Director will be responsible for grant writing, research, development of a donor program, and coordination with law enforcement training. The successful candidate will work closely with a variety of academic programs including Sociology, Anthropology, Criminal Justice and Forensic Biochemistry.
Minimum qualifications: Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in Anthropology. Training in forensics. Active research agenda. Evidence of peer-reviewed scholarship.

Knowledge/skills/abilities required: Demonstrated ability to secure external funding. Advanced knowledge and understanding of forensic anthropology principles, procedures, and techniques. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines for the recovery and preservation of human remains. Knowledge and understanding of curatorial principles, methods, procedures and techniques as related to forensic anthropology. Sensitivity in handling confidential information. Oral and written skills essential to communicate findings and work with the public. Collegiality in working collaboratively within the department and across disciplines. Competence in cross-cultural contexts involving forensics.
The position is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with some evening and weekend work required. The salary is competitive.
