Postdoctoral Researcher Evolutionary Biomechanics Lab. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

The Department of Anthropology, in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for an NSF-funded post-doctoral research fellow position. Start date is negotiable but Spring 2017 is preferred. The position will be awarded for up to two years, subject to review after one year.

The postdoctoral fellow will work on an NSF funded project to investigate the subchondral and trabecular bone adaptation to loading conditions using an ovine model. The postdoctoral fellow should operate highly independently and may hold the responsibility of supervising undergraduate and graduate students. Other key skills and characteristics include:
1. Ability to independently produce, analyze, and present scientific data (as evidenced by an existing publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals), 2. Good oral communication skills (as evidenced by previous poster/podium presentations at professional scientific conferences), 3. Conceptual understanding of the ways in which bone responds to mechanical loading, 4. Technical expertise in analyzing subchondral and/or trabecular bone, 5. Familiarity with MATLAB and R is strongly preferred. Professional qualifications: Ph. D. in Biological Anthropology, Ecology and Evolution, Organismal Biology, Mechanical Engineering or an associated field.
