Physical Anthropology (Anthropometric Analyst)

Provide generalizable knowledge, expertise, and physical/virtual assessment data in support of programs at the 711 th Human Systems Integration Directorate. Performing these tasks requires controlled analysis, data collection, and verification, recommendations, collection of high resolution linear and 3D anthropometry, body posture and biomechanics, and collection of cognitive and physiological data from human subjects. This data could be used for a variety of applications including: 1) expansion and delivery of knowledge indicators that define human physical and cognitive characteristics and capabilities; 2) improvement of data-driven human models and virtual environment simulations for effective human/machine interfacing and validation of digital human modeling; 3) development of algorithms/software for automated human model generation; and 4) support of current and future performance-based specification/guidance development.
Studies human physical, cognitive, and physiological attributes.

Collect data of biofidelic human 3D motion, positional, and morphology for the creation of development (designing of) simulated human form and activity for data collection and digital human modeling.
Create statistical models and algorithms for human physical, cognitive, and physiological characterization based upon data collected.
Collect, maintain, and distribute findings, and make recommendations based upon data.
TASKS: This effort will include an integrated employee and a government teaming arrangement that will: (a) work with other team members to assist with various studies, e.g. developing test plans and protocols, conducting tests, performing data collection and analyses, designing integrated models, software, and/or databases. The employee will perform the following activities related to the objectives of the anthropometric lab:
Collect data of quantifiable measures based on linear and 3D anthropometry, biomechanics, physiology and cognition. Analyze/model/verify the data as a function of gender, ethnicity, age, representative population, etc. Identify the positions, activity, or interactions of the human within or interacting with a weapon system. Support Human Anthropometric projects/programs which includes:
Process, analyze, verify, and validate collected data to include linear and 3D anthropometry, biomechanics, physiology and cognition.
Identify, analyze, verify, and validate measurable human size, shape, positional, motion, physiology and cognitive descriptors required for interfacing with a specific technology and system.
Use biostatistical methodologies for describing static and dynamic human shape and motion envelopes to create and maintain databases, algorithms, and digital human models for specific populations.
Prepare time/motion and functional decomposition as part of task analysis of duties within a specific system.
Design Human/Machine/Computer interaction prototyping system to assess, analyze, verify, and validate the effects of various control/display layouts on human reach and performance.
Maintain data for the above activities.
Assist in creating modeling tools, biofidelic manikins, and simulated environments that virtually represent human shapes/sizes for the purposes of digital human modeling, and generalizable knowledge for expanding anthropometric design and assessment efforts, training human analysts to properly design systems that can adequately accommodate the user population.
This includes: Support manikin design and measurement of appropriate human subject measuring.
Design 3D morphable human virtual models and modeling tools by utilizing data collected from human subjects. Apply shape, size, motion, posture, and morphology modeling methods and collect data associated with the design of 3D biofidelic graphical modeling and visualization of human characteristics, active behaviors, and carried/worn items such as protective gear and weapons .
Collect and manage data, apply current and accepted testing and analysis methods associated with virtual environments that represent biofidelic human shape characteristics.

Perform anthropometric support and training as identified by the 711th Human Systems Integration Directorate to include the following:
Protective Equipment Fit Modeling: Determine the relationship between body size and the fit of various items of Protective Equipment. This will include helmets, Flight Garments, Body Armor, personal weapons, exoskeletons, etc. Verify the quality of fit, function relative to body size, adequacy of the sizing system, tariffs, and suggest areas for fit improvement. Collect data aimed at determining the equipment effects on personnel in physically challenging environments.

Work station and Cockpit Modeling: Take measurement and perform analysis, verify, validate a complete ergonomic modeling assessments of a variety of Aircraft Cockpits and operator workstations. These assessments will consist of a detailed ergonomics, digital human modeling, and anthropometric data of the crew stations and will allow comparison of each system when modifications take place to these existing systems.

Measurement and Modeling of Baseline User Populations: Conduct advanced methods for performing anthropometric assessments, and perform actual measurement of user populations and baseline data for Human Modeling. The results of this work will be used as baseline information for the assessment and Modeling of a wide variety of equipment that warfighters wear or operate.

Size and Shape Characterization: Create updated multivariate cases based on recent DoD anthropometric survey data to recommend accommodation levels for occupations within aircrew and maintainers. The new data will be used to update military standards including the Crew Systems Bulletin and MIL STD 1472.

Provide training on equipment, software, and process to other members of the anthropometric team.
Provide all data findings and recommendations to the 711 HPW, Integration Directorate on an annual basis.
